If you Goggled lac des Vaux in Verbier, you would find plenty of information about where it is, it's altitude, what it looks like when frozen over in winter, piste information, but I can guarantee you will struggle to find any information on scuba diving in the Alpine lake. I was lucky enough to spend the morning with a group of local Swiss divers who make a day of it once a year to gather up at the lake with underwater cameras, cold water diving kit, a BBQ, raclette and lots of nice local wines which were chilled in the lake - very practical!
Blaise Schollenberger of the Swiss Federation of Underwater Sport and his scuba colleagues and clients made the drive up to lac des Vaux with several 4x4s and set up for the day. They were frequented by walkers and tourists dropping in to watch the unusual spectacle. Lac des Vaux at 2543m is a beautiful spot with a spectacular backdrop. Located just below the Olympique restaurant at the top of the Funispace lift, it is lift accessible in winter, and in summer you can take several beautiful hiking routes to the lake. My friends and I have discusses taking our inflatable Paddle boards up there, but its quite a hike with that weight. Maybe a quad would be the answer, or even better, spread the word and make it a beach area with some snack stands, ice cream, SUP board rental, small boats...and scuba diving!! Then pray the lift is open for the hot days when a dip in the lake will be so rewarding.
