For many years I have had neck problems caused by a combination of a paragliding accident and bad posture due to filming, photographing, skiing and working endless hours on my computer. My chiropractor, Craig McLean from the reputable Putney Chiropractic in London has been managing this along with my sports masseuse Jane Cookson. They had been doing a great job but I was always managing the pain and the and would have preferred to be free of it.
Being very active and into the more adventurous sports I was never keen on yoga and always viewed it as slow and not the best form of exercise because it wasn't faced paced. I certainly never believed it could raise your heart rate or bring you out in a sweat. I couldn't have been more wrong! Only 3 years ago I was persuaded to go to a class with a friend whom I was visiting in Singapore and I could not believe how my entire body was physically worked and how generally good and energised I felt after. I started going two to three times a week after that and the most amazing thing happened; The pain and tingling I had been feeling in my neck down to my fingers for almost 20 years completely disappeared. I was astonished.
I eventually found Sarah Cullen and started practicing Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga with her. Sarah and I later did a photo shoot in the mountains on which we discussed one day making a short film of her practice. We have now made a short 3 min clip to give you a glance at what she does. I have no idea how she gets into these positions!? One day, with her help, I hope to get there. Please view the video and photos below and definitely give yoga a try if you haven't already...and that's for you men as well as the ladies!
